A short film on The Workhouse
Earlier this year I was invited to participate in a film made by the Construction Industry Training Board NI for Key Stage 2 pupils on the subject of the workhouse in Victorian Ireland. As a workhouse expert, I was thrilled to take part and tell the story of the workhouse.
I got the opportunity to re-visit Limavady workhouse and explain some of the history of the workhouse system in Ireland. While this is a school resource, I hope it will provide a clear introduction to the subject for anyone interested in workhouses.
The workhouses featured in this video are in Limavady and Enniskillen. Both of which are open to visitors and I can wholeheartedly recommend a trip if you’re in the area.
Thank you to CITB NI for making this film and making it so easy for me to chat workhouses. Please feel free to share with anyone you think might be interested.
